PJ Library is excited to share this NEW resource for using PJ Library books and materials in your organization. That’s a whopping 147 books a year! And that means we need your creative endeavors to keep our program growing. PJ Library is a Jewish Family engagement program implemented on a local level throughout North America. PJ Our Way, the next chapter of PJ Library for older kids, chooses 48 middle-grade books a year aimed at kids ages nine through twelve. PJ Library chooses 99 titles each year for its North American program, which includes board books, picture books, and easy chapter books aimed at newborn babies through children eight years of age. To help you learn more about what it means to do a mitzvah, weve posted some book suggestions. The emphasis is on deedsnot on positive thoughts or wishes, but on conscious acts of empathy and kindness. They come from many backgrounds – some are intermarried, some have little or no formal Jewish learning, some attend a synagogue and celebrate Jewish holidays, and others may be unfamiliar with Jewish practice all together. What is a Mitzvah The literal meaning of the Hebrew word mitzvah is commandment, but the generally accepted sense is that of a good deed. A special braided candle is lighted for the ceremony and a blessing for wine or grape juice is said. PJ Library and PJ Our Way are available to families who are raising Jewish children from birth through age 12 across North America. Havdalah, Hebrew for 'separation,' marks the end of Shabbat and separates it from the week to come. PJ Library shares Jewish culture and values through quality.
